Accessibility at Seedsy
Seedsy is built to be usable by everyone — including people who navigate with a keyboard, screen reader, magnification, or other assistive technology. Accessibility is a requirement of our cooperative model: a marketplace built by its members has to be open to all of them.
Our conformance target
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA — the standard referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and most international accessibility laws — across all pages of seedsy.org and our member area. Our storefront was last audited and remediated in September 2026, and automated accessibility testing is part of our test suite.
What we've built in
- A "Skip to content" link on every page, so keyboard users can bypass navigation.
- Visible focus indicators on all interactive elements, and full keyboard operability of menus, dialogs, and forms.
- Semantic page structure: one clear page heading, logical heading order, and landmark regions.
- Labels and error messages that are announced by screen readers and tied to the field they describe.
- Color contrast that meets WCAG AA minimums for text and essential icons.
- Support for reduced-motion preferences — animations are disabled when your system requests it.
- Text alternatives for meaningful images and hidden decorative graphics.
Known limitations
- Payment pages: checkout and subscription payments are processed on Stripe's hosted pages and billing portal. Stripe publishes its own accessibility statement; if you hit a barrier on a Stripe-hosted step, tell us and we will help you complete the transaction another way.
- Member-submitted content: listing photos and descriptions are contributed by our members. We require text descriptions at listing time, but the quality of member-written content varies. Report a listing and we will request better information from the seller.
- Journal articles: older posts may predate our current standards; we improve them as we revisit them.
Feedback and enforcement
If any part of Seedsy creates a barrier for you, we want to fix it. Email hello@seedsy.org with the page you were on and what happened. We acknowledge accessibility reports within 5 business days and aim to resolve confirmed issues within 30 days, or tell you the timeline if a fix is larger. If you're not satisfied with our response, you may escalate to the site owner through the same address, or file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice at ada.gov/file-a-complaint.
